| CHICAGO – Patrick Sharp '02 became the first former Vermont men's hockey player to win three Stanley Cups on Monday night as the Chicago Blackhawks won their third championship in the last six years. The Blackhawks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0 in Game 6 to clinch the Stanley Cup Final at the United Center.
Sharp, who also captured Stanley Cup titles in 2010 and 2013 with Chicago, registered 43 points in 68 games during the regular season. He closed the 2015 playoff run with five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 23 contests. The forward is one of only 16 NCAA men's hockey alumni to win three career Stanley Cups.
Mike Paliotta, who served as team captain at Vermont during the 2014-15 campaign, signed with the Blackhawks after the season and played in his first career game in the NHL regular season finale. The defenseman also collected his first NHL point with an assist against the Colorado Avalanche.
Blackhawks strength and conditioning coach Paul Goodman was a member of the Vermont staff for six years from 2002-08, and earned his third ring with the team. Goodman brought the Stanley Cup back to Burlington in 2010 after the Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers.
Former UVM goaltender Andrew Allen '01 is in his fourth season as the developmental goaltending coach for the franchise and helped Chicago claim its third Cup since 2010. Allen spent four seasons between the pipes for the Catamounts and was a teammate of Sharp during his senior season.
