Cornell freshman Isabel Siergiej scored the first goal of the game in the 14th minute off a blocked rebound, giving the Big Red a 1-0 advantage.
Lena Benwood protected the net for the Catamounts and accounted for five saves in the first period.

When action resumed, UVM freshman
Lauren Tucker was able to get a shot off a corner opportunity but was denied by the Cornell defense.

Siergeij struck once again from the center of the circle to give Cornell the two-goal lead and its third victory of the season.

Benwood was credited with eight saves in the Vermont net, while Mackenzie Gagliardi did not have to make a save for Cornell.
Vermont falls to 1-6, while Cornell improves to 3-2.
In the second game of the day at the Catamount Classic, Maine defeated Siena, 7-1.
The Catamount Classic continues on Sunday (Sept. 20) at Moulton Winder Field. Vermon faces Siena at 12 p.m. and will be followed by Maine against Cornell at 2:30 p.m. All four games can be seen online for free via the America East Digital Network at AmericaEast.tv.
