FINAL SCORE: Quinnipiac 4, Vermont 3HAMDEN, Conn. – The University of Vermont field hockey team put up a strong rally against the Quinnipiac Bobcats Sunday afternoon, but came up one goal short in a 4-3 decision.
Tess O'Brien and
Taylor Gaines added a point each with their first goals of the 2015 season.

Anne-Marie Farmer answered back 10 minutes later on an assist from
Lauren Tucker, bringing the score to 1-1. This was Farmer's third goal of the season.

Benwood remained a force in the net as she collected 12 saves before the end of the half.
When action returned Haley Swartz added a Quinnipiac point giving them a single-goal advantage. Moments later freshman
Rachael Picchi sent a pass to O'Brien, who added the equalizer 11 minutes into the second half.

The Bobcats took the lead once again with back-to-back goals from Lauren Belski in the 50th and 62nd minutes.
Taylor Gaines took advantage of a late penalty corner in the 64th minute and struck a low shot into the back of the net, however Quinnipiac held them off and clinched the victory.

Benwood was credited with 14 saves. Vermont falls to 2-8 and Quinnipiac improves to 3-7.
The Catamounts open America East Conference play at Albany on Friday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. UVM returns home Sunday, Oct. 4 to take on conference opponent UMass Lowell at 1 p.m. on Moulton Winder Field. All America East games will be streamed live for free at AmericaEast.tv.
