ALBANY, N.Y. – A three-goal first half pushed No. 19 Albany ahead of the Vermont field hockey team as the Catamounts fell 6-1 on Friday at Alumni Turf.

Albany is now 8-4 on the season and 3-0 in America East matches, while the Catamounts drop to 6-6 and 0-2 in league play.
The Great Danes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute on Paula Heuser's 11th goal of the season. The senior dribbled around multiple Catamounts through the circle and lifted the ball inside the right post.
UVM's best opportunity for the equalizer came in the 29th minute.
Landon Warren received a lead pass, moved past a defender and put a shot on goal, but a diving Maxi Primus turned aside the attempt.
Shortly thereafter, Albany doubled its lead when Anna Bottino put home a close range shot for her third marker of the year.
The score moved to 3-0 in favor of the Great Danes just before halftime on Heuser's second goal of the game. She moved toward the middle of the circle, ultimately firing inside the left post.
Albany added three more in the second half by way of Kelsey Briddell, Molly Mariano and Dana Bozek.
The Catamounts' lone goal came in the 64th minute when
Lauren Tucker found the back of the cage on a penalty corner.
Carla Godsman gave the insert, while
Olivia Hurd was the stopper at the top of the circle. Tucker then put the ball just past the extended right leg guard of Melissa Nealon, converting a corner for the second consecutive match.
Vermont is back on its home pitch on Sunday afternoon, hosting UMass Lowell for Alumnae Day at 1 p.m. at Moulton Winder Field.
