BURLINGTON, Vt. – Four points apiece for Christa Doiron and Anouk Lalande led UMass Lowell as the Vermont field hockey team fell to the River Hawks 3-2 on Sunday in America East action at Moulton Winder Field.

UMass Lowell is now 6-6 on the season and 2-1 in America East play. The setback puts the Catamounts at 6-7 (0-3 America East).
UVM struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a goal by senior
Anne-Marie Farmer. Farmer corralled the ball at the top of the circle, then had a shot redirected en route to the cage and past goalkeeper Eva Berkhout.
The River Hawks needed little time to respond, taking a 2-1 lead in the 19th minute. Doiron buried a loose ball near the penalty spot to ultimately even the score at one-apiece, then Lalande followed up with a goal of her own just seconds later, sending home a rebound.
Vermont managed to tie the score at two in the 44th minute. On the heels of a penalty corner,
Olivia Hurd sent a feed to
Lauren Tucker, who fired from just inside the circle.
Tess O'Brien was on the doorstep and lifted the ball past Berkhout.
The game-winning goal for the River Hawks came shortly thereafter. Doiron dribbled just inside the 25-yard line and pushed the ball into the circle, where it was redirected in traffic by Lalande in the 54th minute.
Vermont's
Lena Benwood made five saves in the setback, while Berkhout finished the afternoon with four stops.
UVM now hits the road for a pair of matches in Orono, Maine. The Catamounts will face division rival Maine on Friday, Oct. 14 at noon, then wrap up the weekend with an 11 a.m. non-conference, neutral-site tilt with California on Saturday, Oct. 15.
