BURLINGTON, Vt. – Four Catamounts reached double figures and 
Chris Day recorded his first win as a Division I head coach as the Vermont women's basketball team topped Dartmouth 59-54 on Sunday afternoon at Patrick Gymnasium.

Both teams are now 1-1 following the matchup in which the Catamounts never trailed. UVM also went 20-for-47 from the field, including an 11-for-20 showing in the first half (55 percent).
 
Vermont set the tone early in the contest, making its first four shots and pocketing seven of the game's first nine points.

Candice Wright made layups in the first 90 seconds, then 
Kallie Banker buried a 3-pointer at the 8:00 mark, picking up where she left off on Friday night. The Catamounts closed the quarter shooting 7-for-11 (63.6 percent) from the field.
 
After the Big Green got within two in the early minutes coming out of halftime, Vermont constructed a 15-4 run and held Dartmouth to just one field goal. The 7:47 span saw UVM hold its opponent to just one made field goal on 10 shots. 
Kristina White and Smith each drained 3-pointers 44 seconds apart, with the latter bringing the crowd to its feet heading into a called timeout.
 
Dartmouth constructed a valiant comeback effort in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Catamounts by a 20-12 margin and getting within five points in the final seconds. The Big Green put together 11 consecutive points leading into the last minute of play before 
Rachel Merrill hit a pair of free throws to put the game out of reach.
 
Fanni Szabo led all scorers with 22 points for Dartmouth. Emily Dryden also paced the Big Green offense, chipping in 10 points.
 
The Catamounts also dominated Dartmouth in the paint, winning that battle by a 22-10 spread.
 
UVM now prepares for its first road contest of the season, visiting Central Connecticut on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
