BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont men's hockey alum Dominique Ducharme '95 is the head coach of Team Canada at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, which is underway in Montreal and Toronto. Ducharme served as an assistant coach for Canada at last year's tournament.

Canada has won its first two games of the preliminary round, beating Russia 5-3 on Monday and shutting out Slovakia 5-0 on Tuesday while tying a team record for fewest shots allowed in a single game (6). The Canadians, who won the 2015 title on home soil, are back in action on Thursday night (Dec. 29) against Latvia at 8 p.m. in Toronto.
Ducharme was hired as the head coach and general manager of the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in April after five seasons as the head coach of the Halifax Mooseheads. The former Catamount forward was named CHL Coach of the Year with the Mooseheads in 2013 after guiding the team to a Memorial Cup Championship.
An ECAC All-Rookie Team selection for the Catamounts in 1992, Ducharme is tied for ninth all-time in scoring in UVM history with 149 points from 1991-95. He sits fifth overall in career power play goals (27), sixth in game-winning goals (9), and seventh in assists (95). Ducharme played professional hockey in the U.S., Canada, and France until 2003.
