Box ScoreÂ
"It was a really good college hockey game, two good teams going head to head," said head coach
Kevin Sneddon. "The kids played so hard for 125 minutes this weekend. We're playing pretty consistent hockey and doing some good things."
Â
Vermont took the lead at the midway point of the first period.
Trey Phillips set up his defense partner
Mitch Ferguson in the high slot, and the sophomore's heavy wrist shot beat Danny Tirone (28 saves) low blocker side through a partial screen.
Conor O'Neil picked up the secondary assist on the play for his second point of the weekend.
Â
The Catamounts doubled the lead on their second power play of the night eight minutes into the second period.
Mario Puskarich picked out
Chris Muscoby at the center point, and the junior defenseman's low shot deflected through the five-hole of Tirone for a 2-0 cushion. With the second assist,
Alexx Privitera is just one shy of his 50th career helper.
Â
UNH answered through Andrew Poturalski two and a half minutes later as the sophomore beat
Packy Munson (29 saves) glove side through traffic from the top of the right circle on a Wildcat man advantage. Matias Cleland collected the primary assist to put New Hampshire on the board.
Â
Vermont carried a one-goal lead into the third, but the Wildcats knotted the score at 5:18 on a net-front scramble. Shane Eiserman and Jamie Hill each took whacks at a loose puck near the left post, and Eiserman's attempt trickled past Munson's skate over the goal line. The play was reviewed briefly and the goal stood for a 2-2 deadlock.
Â
The teams went back and forth for three and a half minutes of continuous action to begin overtime but neither time could find the game-winner. Munson reached across his body for a key glove save at the right post to help preserve the point. New Hampshire finished the night with a 31-30 edge in shots.
Â
"We built a two-goal lead but UNH is offensively very gifted. Obviously we would have liked the win but we settled for three out of four points," added Sneddon.
