BOSTON – Boston University scored four times in the second period as the Terriers advanced to the Hockey East semifinals with a 6-1 win over Vermont Sunday afternoon from Walter Brown Arena.

Box Score Following their first playoff loss in five years Boston University came out flying in the opening minutes. Vermont's
Madison Litchfield made four saves in the first three minutes of action. At the 4:12 mark Kayla Tutino opened the scoring on the power play. Sarah Lefort cut to the slot and fired a shot that Litchfield padded aside but Tutino dove and tapped the rebound in. With her assist Tutino became BU's all-time leading scorer with 182 career points.
58 seconds later the Terriers struck again to make it a two-goal advantage. Rebecca Russo skated behind the Vermont net and centered a feed that Maddie Elia was able to poke past Litchfield for her 15
th goal of the season.
The Catamounts earned a power play 18 seconds into the second period as they pushed to get on the board. The Terriers Erin O'Neil made a couple of key stops to keep the BU lead at two. 54 seconds after the penalty kill Lefort made it a three-goal lead for the Terriers converting a two-on-one with Victoria Bach for her 13
th goal of the season.
Rebecca Leslie added two more Boston University goals in the second period as the Terriers took control of the elimination game. She redirected a point shot at the 4:12 mark for her 13
th goal of the season and pounced on a rebound with 8:06 left in the second for her 14
th goal of the year.
Freshman forward Mary Grace Kelley made it a four-goal second period for the Terriers with her second goal of the season at the 19:44 mark of the middle frame. After the second period Vermont went with
Molly Depew in net, Litchfield finished the afternoon with 24 saves.
With 5:28 left in the third period
Mackenzie MacNeil got the Catamounts on the board.
Gina Repaci fired a shot from the point that went wide, but MacNeil corralled the puck in the corner and beat O'Neil with a wrist shot labeled for the top corner. MacNeil's fifth goal of the season was assisted by Repaci and
Daria O'Neill.
O'Neil made 32 saves in net for the Terriers as she earned her 16
th win of the season, including three against Vermont. Depew made eight saves for Vermont in the third period.
"Credit to BU for getting off to a fast start and seizing the momentum early," said head coach
Jim Plumer. "We simply fell into too deep a hole to climb out of. I'm proud of what this team accomplished this weekend. We will certainly learn from the experiences of this year and apply them moving forward."
With the win the Terriers advance to the Hockey East semifinals and will face the two-seed Northeastern on Saturday March 5 at 4:30 p.m. from Merrimack College's Lawler Rink.
