FINAL SCORE: Maine 63, Vermont 51BANGOR, Maine – A late fourth quarter rally wasn't enough as women's basketball fell short in its second of two back-to-back conference road games 63-51 to Maine on Wednesday evening. Vermont drops to 7-15 (2-7) on the season while Maine improves to 17-7 (8-1).

"A few, brief letdowns on our part were the difference in the game tonight," said head coach
Lori Gear McBride. "A couple of turnovers, missed boxouts and hitting a couple more open shots is what separated us from a very good Maine team."

Andreana Thomas paced seven Catamounts with points on the board as she notched her 17
th double-figure scoring effort of the year with 14 points and six rebounds.
Candice Wright led the way on the boards, pulling down a team-best seven rebounds while adding seven points.

Sigi Koizar eclipsed the 20-point mark for Maine as she tallied 21 points, three rebounds and three assists. Liz Wood was just shy of a double-double as she chipped in 11 points and grabbed a game-high nine boards.

The Black Bears strung together a seven-point lead early on, but Vermont piled up 10 points of its own in the paint during the first quarter to remain within a single possession. UVM trailed 15-12 after one quarter.

Sydney Smith dished a pass down low to
Candice Wright under the basket and the Catamounts were within one midway through the second quarter. Maine went on a 13-3 run over UVM, leading by as many as 11 with 3:43 to play in the half. A pair of three-balls by
Kylie Atwood and
Lauren Handy cut into the Black Bear advantage, but Maine held a 31-24 edge at the half. Â

The Catamounts went 10-for-23 (43.5-percent) from the field in the opening 20 minutes and matched the Black Bears on the boards as each team pulled down 15 boards apiece.

Katie Lavelle connected on back-to-back buckets and Thomas chipped in four of her own from the charity stripe during the third quarter. Maine outscored Vermont 16-11 during the period for a 12-point lead (47-35) before the remaining quarter.

The Black Bears pushed ahead in the final period as Koizar tipped in a layup to give Maine its largest lead (58-38) of the contest at the 5:23 mark.
Kylie Butler went on a personal 7-0 run in the final minute and a half of the fourth quarter with a pair of layups and two trips to the line, but it was not enough as Maine secured the conference win to remain unbeaten on its home court.
