STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Vermont sophomore
Laurence St. Germain finished as the national runner-up in the women's slalom and
Dom Garand finished fourth in the men's race to lead the Catamounts on the final day of alpine racing at the 2016 NCAA Ski Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The Catamounts slipped one spot in the team standings, going from fifth to sixth after both alpine teams placed fifth in the slalom events. Vermont enters the final day of competition with 250 points, seven points beind Dartmouth in fifth. The Denver Pioneers over took Montana State for first place, while Utah and Colorado sit in third and fourth, respectively.RELATED LINKS

St. Germain posted the second fastest time among the field on her first run. She took the lead after her second run but Utah's Julie Mohagen, who followed St. Germain out of the start gate, was 0.37 hundredths of a second faster on the evening.
Mohagen posted a two-run total of 1:29.63, while St. Germain was second at 1:30.00. Monica Huebner of Denver rounded out the podium in third with a time of 1:31.06.
Brittany Lathrop was 23rd, moving up two spots from her first run standing, and
Mille Graesdal was 32nd. Both Lathrop and Graesdal were making their NCAA debuts this season.

Garand nearly defended his slalom title from 2015. He stood in 11th after the first run and put down the fastest second run among the field (43.56), but Erik Read of Denver, the seventh to last skier of the second run, took over the lead following his second time down the hill and held on to win. Read had the second best time during the second run and finished the race with a combined time of 1:24.66.
Garand ended up in fourth place with a two-run total of 1:24.85. The top four skiers were within .19 hundreths of a second of each other. Colorado's Henrick Gunnarsson was the runner-up (1:24.68) by .02 hundreths of a second and Brian McLaughlin, of Darmouth, took third overall (1:24.82).
Will St. Germain finished 19th (1:26.46) and
Bobby Farrell was 23rd overall. Farrell had the fourth best time on the first run, but stumbled on one of the last turns before the flush on the second run to place 23rd.
The 2016 NCAA Ski Championships wrap up on Saturday with the Nordic classic races, which are both mass starts. The men's 20K race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. (EST)/9 a.m. (MT) and will be followed by the women's 15K race at 1 p.m. (EST)/11 a.m. (MT).
