FINAL SCORE: No. 19 Hofstra 13, Vermont 12 (OT)HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra's Josh Byrne tied the game with 20 seconds remaining on the clock to send Vermont into overtime for the second straight game, but the Catamounts fell to 19th-ranked Pride 13-12 in the extra session at James M. Shuart Field on Tuesday evening. UVM falls to 3-5 on the season heading into America East play, while Hofstra improves to 5-3.

Ian MacKay and
Cam Milligan each moved into the top-10 in program history in a pair of offensive categories during the close defeat. MacKay's four goals landed him 10th all-time in career goals scored (89), and Milligan's four assists lifted him to ninth in program history for all-time assists (54). The duo combined for 10 of Vermont's 21 points.

Seven more Catamounts put points on the board for UVM, as
Jon Kaplan collected 11 saves in goal. Junior
Luc LeBlanc went 19-of-27 (.704) at the faceoff X in the Catamount effort.

Brian von Bargen paced Hofstra's offense with a team-best five points on four goals and an assist, including the game-winning overtime goal. Three more members of the Pride also tallied at least two goals. Jack Concannon made 14 saves in net for the Hofstra win.

Hofstra jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter.
James Barlow came around the back of the cage and forced a shot into the bottom corner of the net and gave Vermont its first score of the game.

Hofstra responded with another pair of goals for a 6-1 advantage over the Catamounts after 15 minutes.

Dawes Milchling fed
Braiden Davis from the top left of the attack box, and the rookie bounced a shot passed Concannon to tally the first goal of the second period, and cut Hofstra's cushion to 6-2.

After another score by the Pride, MacKay responded with a pair of goals in the final minutes of the second quarter (7-4), and opened up scoring after the half for his fourth hat trick of the season.

Nick Bartlett continued Vermont's 4-0 run with his seventh goal of the season, and
Jack Knight knotted the score at seven apiece at the 10:44 mark of the third. Hofstra answered with a pair of scores moments later, before
Michael Clarke struck on the Catamounts' fourth goal of the quarter (9-8).

Two unanswered Hofstra scores were halted by Milligan and MacKay who traded goals to bring Vermont within one score of the Pride (11-10).
Cam Stafford knotted the score once again at 11 before
Karl Weller gave UVM its first lead with 4:30 remaining in the game. Byrne halted a 4-0 UVM run and sent the game into overtime with just 20 seconds on the clock, and von Bargen sealed the victory for the nationally-ranked Pride 2:11 into the extra period.

The Pride narrowly outshot Vermont 40-38, but the Catamounts dominated at the X and won 20-of-30 faceoffs. UVM also converted on three of its eight extra man opportunities.

UVM returns to Burlington for back-to-back home games, starting with its conference opener on Saturday (March 26) against UMass Lowell at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, March 29, Vermont hosts Dartmouth at 6 p.m. for the first men's lacrosse game under the lights at Virtue Field.
