FINAL SCORE: No. 12 Stony Brook 13, Vermont 10STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Jack Knight recorded his first career hat trick during a fourth quarter comeback attempt, but Vermont was handed its first conference loss as it fell to No. 12 Stony Brook 13-10 in America East action on Sunday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Field. UVM drops to 5-6 (1-1) on the season, while the Seawolves improve to 8-2 (2-1).

Ian MacKay and
Cam Milligan combined for nine of Vermont's 16 points. MacKay extended his point streak to 40 games on three goals and three assists, and Milligan tallied a pair of goals and dished out an assist. Knight posted his first multi-goal game, while
Cam Stafford and
Dawes Milchling also added a score.

Alex Corpolongo piled up a team-best five points on four goals and an assist for Stony Brook. Matt Schultz and Ryan Bitzer also posted multi-goal efforts as they combined for six goals. Challen Rogers dished out team-high three assists and added a goal.

Zach Oliveri stopped four shots in goal for the Seawolves and Brand Maciejewski grabbed five saves to combine on the winning effort. In Kaplan's third consecutive starts he made eight saves in goal for Vermont.

Vermont and Stony Brook traded goals in the opening quarter as the teams closed out the first 15 minutes knotted at three apiece. Milligan tallied a pair of goals, including the first score 56 seconds in, while Stafford added the third score.

Corpolongo gave the Seawolves their first advantage of the game 2:40 into the second quarter, but MacKay answered back with a stinger straight on Stony Brook's doorstep (4-4). Corpolongo struck again to give Stony Brook a 5-4 cushion at the turn of the half. The first two quarters saw four ties and five lead changes while both teams recorded 13 shots. Â

The third quarter resulted in the the game's first multi-goal lead as Stony Brook went on a 4-2 scoring run over 10 minutes. MacKay's pair of goals gave the junior his sixth hat trick of the season, but the Seawolves maintained a 9-6 advantage heading into the remaining quarter. Â

Freshmen Knight and Milchling brought Vermont within one score of Stony Book to open the final quarter (9-8). Bitzer sparked a four-goal run for the Seawolves, but two more late scores by Knight chipped into Stony Brook's 13-10 final advantage.

Luc LeBlanc went 12-of-24 at the faceoff X as Vermont outshot the Seawolves 32-29, including a 16-7 advantage in the fourth quarter, but were edged out 35-30 in ground balls by Stony Brook.

Vermont uses the next week to prepare for No. 9 Albany on Saturday (April 9). Faceoff against the Great Danes in New York is set for 7 p.m. and can be viewed via AmericaEast.tv. Â
