CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Colby Snyder's first career goal proved to be the game-winner as the Vermont women's soccer team picked up its first road win of the season – a 1-0 shutout of The Citadel in non-conference action Friday afternoon at Washington Light Infantry Field.

Coco Speckmaier made three saves and the Catamounts played stingy defense in their third clean sheet of the season.

The Catamounts (4-2-1) tilted the field in the first half possessing the ball for significant stretches of play on the Bulldogs' (3-3-0) home pitch.
Caitie Green and
Sarah Martin combined for all five of UVM's first-half shots while Speckmaier made two saves in the UVM net, including a diving stop to her left at the 25-minute mark.

Vermont wasted little time getting on the board in the second half. Not even two minutes in,
Dana Buckhorn found space on the left side and ripped a right-footed shot on goal forcing Citadel keeper Logan Leask to make a sprawling save. Snyder pounced on the rebound, calmly directing it home to give the Cats a 1-0 lead.

UVM stood tall defensively after the goal withstanding a Citadel push that created multiple chances over the next 25 minutes. Speckmaier made one additional save after half time anchoring a steady back line.

Julia Smith started to wreak havoc along the right flank with about 15 minutes to play. She set up several solid chances in front of the net for Martin, Green and
Nikki McFarland but Leask made a number of crucial stops. Martin had the best crack at an insurance goal but her point-blank blast in the 89
th minute was blocked away.
