CatamounTV Highlights
UVM is now 5-3 following the win, while the setback puts Bryant at 0-8. The Catamounts are also 5-0 on their home pitch for the first time since 2008.
"We truly are a team and we talk about that all the time," said head coach
Kate Pfeifer. "We have to play team hockey and rely on one another, which we did today."
The Bulldogs struck first in the ninth minute when Victoria Danby spun just inside the circle and directed the ball towards the cage, seeing the shot redirected by Freya Ward for her first collegiate goal.
UVM quickly responded, tying the score at one-apiece in the 14th minute. Warren dribbled into the circle, drove across the goal mouth and fired the ball home. The sophomore has now tallied a point in four of Vermont's last five matches.
Six minutes later, the Catamounts grabbed a 2-1 lead on a tally by
Rachael Picchi. Tucker received a pass from
Rachel Phillips at the 25-yard line, then sent the ball into the circle where Picchi dove and lifted it above the left leg guard of Bryant goalkeeper Marissa Elizardo.
The Bulldogs sent the teams into halftime tied at two-apiece on a goal from Danby in the 34th minute.
A penalty corner conversion in the 55th minute gave UVM the lead for the balance of the match. Off an insertion by Picchi,
Olivia Hurd initiated a feed toward the cage, ultimately being redirected in front by
Tess O'Brien, who elevated the ball above the glove of Elizardo, moving the score to 3-2 in favor of the Catamounts.
UVM's final goal came in the waning seconds of regulation. Picchi inserted a penalty corner, which was stopped by Hurd. Tucker then sent a shot on goal which deflected off of the stick of
Anne-Marie Farmer for the tally, her second of the season.
Goalkeeper
Lena Benwood turned aside six shots for Vermont on the afternoon, including four in the second half. The win was the 12th of her career, tying the junior with Wendy Pouliot (1987-89) for eighth in program history in that category.
Next up for the Catamounts are the team's final two non-conference matches of the regular season. UVM hosts Siena of the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference on Friday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. and then travels for a Sunday, Sept. 25 match at Ivy League foe Cornell at 1 p.m.
