BURLINGTON, Vt. – UVM field hockey had its second half comeback efforts fall short with a 4-2 defeat to UMass Lowell on Friday afternoon. Vermont falls to 4-9 on the season and drops its fourth America East contest. The River Hawks improve to 8-7 overall and even their conference mark at 2-2.

In the 24th minute, the River Hawks jumped out in front with a goal from Torrie Huk. Anouk Lalande lined a shot towards the cage, but she was turned away by UVM goalie
Lena Benwood (4 saves). Brooke Roberts collected the rebound and passed to her left where Huk slapped a one-timer into the left side of the cage. With under three minutes remaining in the period, Lalande added the River Hawks' second goal of the day off a penalty corner.

Katie Lynes contributed the third goal of the afternoon in the 39th minute after sending a rebound into the back of the cage. In the 54th minute, Clara Defourt padded UMass Lowell's advantage to 3-0 with a penalty stroke goal.

The Catamounts answered a minute later with
Landon Warren's 11th goal of the season.
Lauren Tucker centered a pass to Warren who wired a shot past River Hawks keeper Eva Berkout (5 saves).

Tucker reached the scoring column less than 10 minutes later. UVM worked a penalty corner to perfection after
Rachel Phillips passed to the top of the circle to
Olivia Hurd, who pushed a pass to the left side of the circle, and Tucker finished the chance by firing a shot past Berkout.

Vermont returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 15) against twin state rival New Hampshire. Game time is set for 1 p.m. The contest is also UVM's annual Rally Against Cancer game, presented by Otter Creek Awnings and Vermont Custom Closets, to benefit the University of Vermont Cancer Center. In recognition of the ongoing fight against cancer, UVM will be wearing pink socks during the game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and show their support of Vermont's cancer research initiative.
