ALBANY, N.Y. – UVM field hockey was in position to upset 20th-ranked Albany, but the Great Danes tallied three unanswered goals and handed the Cats a 3-2 overtime defeat on Friday afternoon. Vermont falls to 5-10 on the year and 1-5 in conference play. Albany improves to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in the league standings.

The Catamounts scored twice in less than two minutes for the early lead in the first half. In the 19th minute, the Green and Gold put pressure on the Great Danes in front of the cage. From the left side of the circle,
Sydney Melfi dished a cross to the
Landon Warren, who chipped the go-ahead score under the left arm of Albany goalie Megan Nealon (1 save).

In the 21st minute,
Rachel Phillips doubled UVM's lead with a penalty stroke goal. Phillips crushed a line drive into the right side of the cage past a diving Nealon. Â

The Great Danes cut the deficit in half in the 51st minute. Kelsey Briddell started the attack by passing to the top of the circle on a penalty corner. After trapping the pass, Dana Bozak took one dribble and fired a line drive inside of the right post.

With under four minutes left in regulation, Bozak and Briddell teamed up again on a penalty corner. From the top of the circle, Bozak created space for herself with a spin move and fancy stick work, then drilled the equalizer into the left side of the cage.

Briddell caged the walk-off goal on Albany's first possession of overtime. From the right side of the goal, she spun to her left and wrapped the game-winner into the back-left corner of the cage.
