ORONO, Maine – The Vermont field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to Maine in America East action on Sunday afternoon at the Black Bears' Field Hockey Complex. UVM falls to 4-8 (0-3 AE), while Maine improves to 8-4 (2-1 AE).

The Black Bears got on the board first in the 15th minute as Libby Riedl converted on a breakaway to beat

The hosts doubled their lead six minutes later when Madison Cummings followed a shot and sent the rebound home for her fifth goal of the year. The Black Bears held off Vermont for a 2-0 advantage at the break.
The Catamounts kept it close until the final 10 minutes when the Black Bears scored twice in quick succession. Cummings collected her second of the afternoon by tipping in a pass from Casey Crowley in the 64th minute. Cummings then had a high shot deflected into the cage by Brianna Ricker just 45 seconds later to cap the scoring.
Maine goalkeeper Emma Cochran made a pair of saves in the shutout.
Vermont returns to Burlington for a pair of conference home contests next weekend. The Cats host UMass Lowell on Friday (Oct. 13) at 3 p.m. and then face UNH at Moulton Winder Field on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 1 p.m. in their Rally Against Cancer Game presented by Otter Creek Awnings and Vermont Custom Closets.
