"We didn't get the result we wanted today but we bounced back and played the kind of hockey we are capable of," Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "Sometimes in hockey you don't get the bounces and this was one of those games when we generated chances and just didn't finish. I was pleased to see us get back on track."

After the first 18 minutes of the opening period went scoreless, both Boston University and Vermont found the back of the net before the end of the period. BU's Rebecca Leslie knocked home a rebound off of Victoria Bach's stick 18:14 into the frame to take the initial lead.

Valkama evened the score with five seconds remaining in the first, putting home a rebound. Kourtney Menches took the initial shot and picked up an assist along with Amanda Drobot.

In the fast-paced first period, UVM held an 11-10 advantage in shots over BU, with Melissa Black making 9 saves and Corinne Schroeder stopping 10 shots.

Just over five minutes into the second, Black kept the score even at one apiece with a save on Bach in the slot. The Terriers took a 2-1 lead 8:03 into the frame on a 4-on-4 goal from Leslie, who roofed the puck over Black's left shoulder.

Vermont's best chance of the period came with eight minutes remaining as Val Caldwell cut past a defender into the slot and tried to slip a puck over Schroeder's left pad, but could not beat the freshman goalie. The Cats outshot the Terriers 8-6 in the period.

Bach doubled the BU lead 1:22 into the final period as she split the UVM defense in the neutral zone and managed to finish on a breakaway with a UVM defender close behind her.

The Catamounts could not cut into the BU lead during a three-minute power play that included 30 seconds of 5-on-3 play that began with 16:17 remaining in the game. Another Terrier penalty gave the Cats another chance on the advantage, but Schroeder stood tall, stopping all shots while a man down.

Alyssa Gorecki nearly scored with just under four minutes remaining, she tried to put home a rebound in the slot and drew a hooking penalty on Stanley, her third of the game. A minute and a half later, BU picked up another penalty to give the cats the two-man advantage. UVM pulled Black for the 6-on-3 advantage but could not find the back of the net, falling 3-1.

Vermont returns to action next weekend as hosts of the Third Annual Windjammer Classic. Colgate and Minnesota Duluth will play at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 followed by Vermont against RIT at 7 p.m. The consolation game will be played at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25 with the championship game slated for 7 p.m.
