ORONO, Maine – Sydney Scobee made 37 saves for the Catamounts and
Kourtney Menches and
Taylor Willard each scored a goal in a 2-2 tie with the Black Bears Sunday afternoon.

Vermont moves to 5-11-3 overall and 3-7-2 in Hockey East play while Maine moves to 11-6-3 and 5-3-2 in conference games.

Jim Plumer said. "I'm proud that we raised our compete level, particularly in the last two periods. We know what we are going to get next weekend in Burlington and we look forward to the rematch."

Menches gave Vermont an early lead with 7:42 remaining in the opening period with her second of the season.
Olivia Kilberg moved the puck to
Val Caldwell out of the defensive zone who dumped the puck into the Maine zone. The puck kicked off the boards to the front of the net where Menches knocked the puck into the net before Carly Jackson could make it back to her crease.

Maine tied the game less than three minutes later when Tereza Vanisova scored her second of the weekend. She carried the puck from the neutral zone to the corner to Scobee's left before cutting to the slot and forcing the puck past Scobee between a pair of Vermont defenders.

Neither team was called for a penalty in the first. Scobee made 18 saves for the Catamounts.

In the middle period, neither team could find the back of the net. Vermont held the advantage in shots over Maine, 9-6. Three penalties were called against Maine compared to two against the Catamounts. Halfway through the period, UVM had 51 seconds of 5-on-3 play, but could not beat the Maine penalty kill and Jackson.

After skating back and forth for the first half of the final period, the Catamounts took a 2-1 lead 9:24 into the period.
Taylor Willard picked up the puck in the offensive zone and walked to the top of the slot and ripped a shot by Jackson.
Ali O'Leary and
Kristina Shanahan picked up assists on the play.

With 4:11 remaining in regulation, Stacey Brooke received a pass from Vanisova in the low slot and roofed the puck over a sprawled Scobee for the equalizer. Daria Tereshkina also grabbed an assist on the play.

The teams ended regulation tied at 2-2, with Scobee making 33 saves in regulation and Jackson finishing with 13 saves. Scobee made a pair of quality saves in overtime, and four overall to keep the game tied. Jackson stopped both shots she faced in the extra period.

Maine and Vermont square off again next weekend at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The game is scheduled for Saturday. Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.
