PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ben French and
Cam Milligan each scored twice, but Vermont could not overcome a five-goal Providence run in the middle two quarters as the Catamounts fell 8-6 on Saturday at Chapey Field.

The setback snaps UVM's three-game season-opening win streak and moves the Catamounts to 3-1 on the season. With the win, Providence is also now 3-1.
Freshman
Nick Washuta made nine saves on the day for the Catamounts and Providence's Tate Boyce made eight stops.
French quickly opened the day's scoring by burying a shot just one minute into the game on a feed from
Rob Hudson. After the Friars countered with a man-up goal by Joseph Michale, French and
Jack Knight teamed up to restore the lead for the Green and Gold and move the score to 3-1.
Providence then proceeded to net the game's next five goals, a sequence that was witness to a hat trick by Brendan Kearns to start and ultimately capped off by a pair from Nick Hatzipetrakos.
The teams then traded goals for the remainder of the afternoon, but as a result Vermont was unable to get any closer than within two.
Matt Gudas set up Milligan for each of his goals in the third and fourth quarters and Gudas himself found the cage in the final minute. UVM also had an extra man opportunity late in the game, but was unable to capitalize.
With Saturday's results in the book, Milligan has now notched a point in 36 straight games and registered a goal in 11 consecutive contests.
Freshman
Charlie Erdmann manned the faceoff X for Vermont for the entirety of the afternoon, finishing 11-for-17. He collected a team-high four ground balls, trailed closely by Milligan (3).
Ben Cox led the group with three caused turnovers.
As a team, UVM was 16-for-18 on clears, while Providence was 18-for-22 on the day.
Vermont is back in action on Tuesday (Feb. 28) with a 4 p.m. midweek matchup at twin state rival Dartmouth.
