VESTAL, N.Y. – Cam Milligan buried two goals and Vermont took a 4-3 lead into halftime, but Binghamton countered with five unanswered stretching into the fourth quarter as the Catamounts fell 8-5 on Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

The Catamounts fall to 4-5 (0-2 America East) with the setback, while Binghamton is now 6-1 (2-0 America East) and has extended its winning streak to five games.
In goal
Nick Washuta made 11 saves for the Catamounts, while his counterpart, Tanner Cosens, finished with eight stops.
The first quarter was witness to a low-scoring 15 minutes as the teams traded goals.
Michael Clarke buried an unassisted chance at the 10-minute mark and less than two minutes later, Binghamton responded with Matthew Kaser's equalizer.
Faced with a 3-1 deficit midway through the second quarter, the Green and Gold rallied with three straight goals to close the half. Milligan inked his name in the box score with 7:28 on the clock, then
Jack Knight and
Rob Hudson followed suit to restore Vermont's advantage at 4-3.
In the final minutes before halftime, UVM went on an EMO and although
Alex Stanko rang the post, the Catamounts were kept off the board. Following the chance, Binghamton cleared and sustained offensive pressure, but Washuta and the Vermont defense preserved their one-goal lead heading into the break.
The tide began to turn in the third period, when the Bearcats went on a four-goal run, receiving contributions from Joe Grossi, Joe Licata, Tom Moore and Griffin Konen.
The final quarter saw the Catamounts outshoot Binghamton 10-4, including a 5-1 margin in shots on goal. Unfortunately for UVM, Cosens made several key saves down the stretch. His only mistake came with 3:01 left in regulation, when Milligan found his second goal of the day to trim the Vermont deficit to 8-5.
Defensively,
James Leary,
Mark Marciano and
Matt Sealy each caused two turnovers for the Catamounts. In total, Vermont had four extra-man opportunities but was unable to capitalize.
For Binghamton, Tyler DeLuca had two goals, while Moore dished out three assists in addition to scoring once.
Vermont is back at Virtue Field next Saturday (April 1) as the squad hosts Hartford in a noon matchup.
