LAST TIME OUTÂ
Vermont scored four unanswered goals to begin the second half and came within a goal of tying the game at Binghamton, but could not find the equalizer. The Catamounts dropped the America East opener to the Bearcats 14-9 last Saturday. UVM used a pair of hat tricks from
Brynne Yarranton and
Jenna Janes to fuel the offensive attack. Yarranton led the Catamounts with four goals, won six draw controls, and scooped up a ground ball. Janes added three goals on three free-position attempts.
Elena McWright and
Bailey Saneman also found the back of the net with one goal apiece. Goalie
Catherine Green set a new career-high with 10 saves.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats opened the conference slate on Sunday with the toughest task of the season – a visit from preseason favorite and sixth-ranked Stony Brook (L,14-2). Despite the goose egg in the win column, UNH has been competitive and have lost five of its 10 games by less than five goals, including a heart-breaking 11-10 overtime loss to Holy Cross. Krissy Schafer leads the team in points (23), goals (20), and her 20-goal tally ranks in the top-10 among the league's top scorers. Karly Wooters follows with 14 points and sits second on the team with 20 points. In goal, Kate Clancy has stopped the second-most shots among America East goalies with 86 saves.
SERIES HISTORY
The Wildcats control the all-time series 30-8 which dates back to 1983, but the Catamounts have momentum on their side with five wins in the last six meetings. UVM has won three of the last four games in Burlington. The two rivals have seen some epic battles in recent years. In 2008, Vermont knocked off 14th-ranked New Hampshire with a 9-8 victory which gave the green and gold their first win over a ranked opponent in program history.
