SETTING THE SCENE
The Catamounts are looking to win their third non-conference finale in the last five seasons. UVM will also be seeking its fifth victory during non-league play for the second straight year and the sixth time (2016, 2004, 1996, 1993, 1991) since 1991. In the national statistical rankings,
Coco Speckmaier and
Sarah Martin are among the top players in the country. Speckmaier ranks in the top-25 in total saves (52) and saves per game (6.50). Martin sits 14th overall in shots per game (2.38) and the senior cracked the top-50 with 0.50 assists per game.
Brooke Jenkins and Martin have combined for 15 points this season - the third-most by a set of America East teammates.
LAST TIME OUT
Central Connecticut State used a pair of second half goals to sneak past UVM with a 2-0 victory last Friday. The Blue Devils tallied the first goal of the evening two minutes into the second half. On a corner kick, Yo Tachibana sent a pass to the far corner of the six-yard box where Charlotte Maurer leaped up and knocked a header inside of the far post. CCSU padded its lead 10 minutes later when Kelly Halligan was on the attack and buried a strike from 30 yards out into the top left corner of the net.
SHUTOUT STREAK
Prior to the loss at CCSU, Vermont had prevented a shutout for seven straight games. The seven-game stretch without suffering a shutout occurred for the second consecutive season and the fourth time since 1996 (2016, 1998, 1996). The previous three UVM squads to accomplish the feat reached the America East Semifinals and the 1996 team captured an America East regular season title.
ALL-TIME COACHING RECORDS
Head coach
Kristi Lefebvre has tallied 37 wins during her tenure with the Catamounts and she is only four wins shy of tying Jodi Kenyon for second place on the program's all-time wins list. In her first season at the helm in 2011, the Catamounts earned a berth into the America East Tournament for the first time in five years and she has guided the Green and Gold to three semifinals appearances during her time in Burlington – the most by a Vermont head coach.
SCOUTING BRYANT
Like the Catamounts, the Bulldogs will also wrap up non-conference play on Friday night. Bryant is in the midst of a four-game unbeaten streak, including 2-0-1 against America East teams during the stretch. The Bulldogs use a balanced scoring attack as eight different players have found the back of the net. Sophomore forward Remi Manna holds a share of the team lead with five points on a pair of goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Alison Guilmette has matched Manna's point total with three assists and one goal. Freshman keeper Meghan Dalton is among the best goalies in the nation with the 14th-highest save percentage (.889) and 16th-lowest goals-against average (0.44) in Division I. In four games on her home turf, Dalton has not surrendered a goal.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The two programs will square off for the second time ever on Friday night. The first meeting saw a 2-1 victory by the Green and Gold at Virtue Field back in 2013 as all three goals came in the first half.
