COACH'S QUOTE
"We are happy to earn a win and shutout this afternoon and head into playoffs with some momentum," said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "Binghamton is always a tough opponent but I thought we handled their pressure well and created plenty of opportunities of our own. We are looking forward to hosting here at Virtue on Thursday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts opened the scoring in the seventh minute with Della Weir's third goal of the season. Madeline Gardner whipped a ball into the box and on the far post Weir was engaged with a Binghamton defender. Weir got the slightest touch and with some backspin it just crossed the line to make it 1-0.
- The Bearcats almost equalized in the 50th minute, UVM's Sophia Kling made an initial stop on Paige Luke but the rebound came right back to Binghamton's Jahkaya Davis. Davis had an open net, but Emma Warren cleared the ball off the line to keep it 1-0.
- In the 89th minute Binghamton's Lizzie Holstein blasted a shot from 27-feet out that hit the bottom of the crossbar and went down and out. After a VAR review it was upheld that the ball didn't cross the line.
- The Bearcats outshot UVM 8-1 in the second half but they couldn't find the back of the net. It was just the fifth time this season, and the second time in conference play, they've been held scoreless.
