COACH'S QUOTE
"Not every person ran a perfect race today, but both teams had perfect scores of 15.  In a team sport like cross country, it is critical to have the depth that allows us to achieve success with different racers stepping up at key times," said head coach Matt Belfield. "Today, Annemarie and Phoebe showed marked improvement to help us deal with some injury and illness of teammates. And I couldn't be more pleased to see Lauren and Samantha go 1-2 in their last home XC race. For the men, Matt Hynes showed just how talented he is as he ran a supremely confident race from start to finish. Will looks sharp again and the men really challenged each other, with many getting course-best performances. We'll get a good ten days of training in and then some rest before the America East Championships. Both teams will be ready to lay it on the line for sure."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trumble raced to a time of 18:05 to claim the individual title, her first of the season
  • Samantha Sayer (2nd) and Phoebe Koski (3rd) followed their senior captain with times of 18:09 and 18:10, respectively.
  • Annemarie Martell (4th) set a 5K personal record with a time of 18:19, which eclipsed her previous mark by nearly 40 seconds.
  • Maggie Hallahan (5th) rounded out the Vermont scorers as she crossed the line in 18:32.
  • Hynes recorded his first top finish of the season with a personal record of 25:07 in the 8K run, 45 second improvement.
  • John Benner (2nd) and Will LaCroix (3rd) also registered personal bests with times of 25:14 and 25:21, respectively.
  • Jack Carmody (4th) and Luke Petela (5th) rounded out the Catamounts' scorers.
NOTES
  • The Cats' victories today at Hard'Ack mark a clean sweep on their home course this season. UVM previously won in St. Albans to open the 2018 season (Sept. 1)
  • With the men's and women's victories today, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate another $100 to the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington, bringing this year's total to 82 wins and $8,200.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Vermont Catamounts prepare for the America East Championship, which takes place Saturday (Oct. 27) at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, N.H.
