CATS VS. RANKED OPPONENTS
The Catamounts will play their third ranked opponent of the 2018 season. In the second game of the year, UVM pushed No. 10 Duke to the brink of an upset but fell 2-1 in overtime. Last month, the Cats dropped the America East opener at 19th-ranked UMass Lowell 2-0. UVM has two wins under its belt against teams in the national rankings since 2009 – a 3-1 victory against No. 18 UMBC in 2009, then the Green and Gold took down 14th-ranked Stanford a year later with a 2-1 overtime thriller in Burlington.
DOUBLE DIGITS
UVM has reached the 10-win mark for the fourth straight year and the second time under
Rob Dow. The second-year head coach is the only coach in program history to surpass the 10-victory plateau in each of his first two seasons. The Cats produced six straight seasons with double-digit wins from 1986-91, which included two conference championships (1989, 1990) and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (1989, 1990).
BARÐDAL FOR THE WIN!
After scoring the game-winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 win against Stony Brook,
Jon Arnar Barðdal was named America East Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The junior helped UVM hand the Seawolves their only conference loss this season. In America East play, Barðdal holds a share of the league lead with two game-winning goals.
SCOUTING UCONN
The Huskies are ranked No. 20 in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll and stand at No. 16 in the NCAA RPI rankings. UConn has been one of the toughest teams to play in Storrs with an unbeaten 8-0-1 record at home. The Huskies have the second-highest scoring offense in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) with 62 points. UConn sits second in assists (20) and third in goals (21) in the AAC. Abdou Mbacke Thiam has been one of the top scorers in the country. The senior midfielder has produced the 10th-most points (26) and the 13th-most goals (11). He is coming off a two-goal effort against Temple on Saturday and has tallied nine goals in the seven matches. Goalie Austin Aviza has been one of the top keepers in Division I. He has recorded the 29th-best goals-against average at 0.77 with four clean sheets.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The regional rivals will revisit the series for the first time since 2007. The two programs have not met during the regular season since the season opener in 1986. Vermont and UConn have faced each other four times in the NCAA Tournament - 1975, 1981, 1989, and 2007. The Huskies hold a 16-10-1 edge over the Cats in the all-time series as UVM will try to grab its first win in Storrs since 1968.
