RALLY AGAINST CANCER presented by Vermont Custom Closets
Saturday's game is Vermont's Rally Against Cancer game, presented by Vermont Custom Closets, and Hockey East's Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer game. Fans are encouraged to wear lavender to support the fight against ALL cancers.
Â
Vermont will accept donations to the team's Brovember fundraiser at all home games in the month of November. The team is raising money for the UVM Cancer Center with a goal of $25,000 raised. Hockey East will sell Skating Strides merchandise at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Saturday with proceeds benefitting the Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer foundation.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn enters the weekend with a 3-2-1 overall record and 1-1-1 Hockey East record. The Huskies have a pair of non-conference wins over Army and Rensselaer and a loss to in-state foe Quinnipiac. In Hockey East, UConn lost to Providence before taking a win and tie against the Maine Black Bears last weekend in Hartford.
Â
Alexander Payusov leads the team with seven goals and eight points through six games. Freshman Jachym Kondelik has a share of the team point lead with eight assists in his first collegiate games. Adam Huska has made five starts between the pipes with a 2.99 goals against average and .905 save percentage.
INSIDE THE SERIESÂ
UVM holds a 23-5-1 all-time series edge against the Huskies. The teams first met in the 1963 season. Vermont and Connecticut met 16 times in UVM's first 12 seasons of varsity hockey before a 26 year hiatus between meetings. The series resumed with single meetings in 2001 and 2003, but not until 2014 have the teams met annually. UVM has an 11-2-1 record at Gutterson Fieldhouse and a 7-4-0 record since the Huskies joined Hockey East.
2K LEKKAS
Stefanos Lekkas recorded a pair of personal milestones in Vermont's games against New Hampshire and Brown. He became the 10th Catamount goalie to record 2,000 career saves in the third period at UNH. On Sunday, he passed UVM Hall-of-Famer Dave Reece for ninth in the Catamount records in career saves.
Â
His 2,030 career stops places him less than 300 saves from UVM's top-5 and less than 900 saves from the top-3. Lekkas ranks 10th in program history with 72 career appearances, 12th in Vermont history with 30 career wins, and ninth in program history with three career shutouts. His .914 career save percentage would place him in a tie for second in Catamount history. His 2.68 career goals against average would place him third in Vermont history, behind only Joe Fallon '08 and Rob Madore '12.
