BOSTON, Mass. – Northeastern scored a pair of first period goals and Aerin Frankel stopped all 34 shots she faced from the Catamounts as the Huskies took a 4-0 victory Friday night at Matthews Arena.

Vermont finishes the regular season with a 10-18-5 overall record and 7-13-4 mark in Hockey East play. Northeastern improves to 15-15-3 overall and 11-10-2 in conference play. The Huskies close out their regular season Sunday afternoon at Providence.

"Unfortunately we didn't play sharply tonight and sloppy puck management came back to bite us," head coach
Jim Plumer said. "At this time of the year we have to be good in all aspects of the game and Northeastern capitalized on our mistakes. We know what kind of team we can be and now we will have to be at our absolute best next weekend."

Olivia Kilberg and
Mackenzie MacNeil each had good chances for the Catamounts in a back and forth first half of the opening period. The Catamounts killed Northeastern's power play chance after a hooking call against
Ève-Audrey Picard.

Veronika Pettey gave Northeastern the lead 15:12 into the first period after bringing the puck down the right side and firing a shot from the faceoff dot over
Sydney Scobee's left shoulder.

Vermont went on the power play with 3:01 remaining after Brooke Hobson was called for cross-checking. Frankel stopped all three shots she faced to keep the Catamounts off the board.

With 24 seconds left in the period, Taytum Clairmont doubled the Northeastern lead with a rebound goal from the slot. Kasidy Anderson took the original shot that Scobee turned away.

Scobee made 13 saves in the opening period while Frankel stopped all 13 UVM shots she faced.

Northeastern found the net on its second power play of the game that started with 12:45 left in the second. Pettey threw the puck into traffic in front of the net and Anderson snuck the puck past Scobee for the goal.

Vermont pressured the Northeastern defense for the remainder of the second with chances in the slot from
Anna Erickson and Kilberg, but Frankel stood tall, making eight saves in the period.

UVM got a pair of power play chance in the first 10 minutes of the third after penalties called against Hobson and Lauren Kelly. The Catamounts could not get a shot past Frankel and the NU defense.

McKenna Brand added an empty net goal to make it 4-0 Huskies with 27 seconds remaining.

Northeastern went 1-for-2 on its power play chances while Vermont was unsuccessful on four chances in the game. Scobee finished the game with 24 saves.

The Catamounts will compete in the 2018 Hockey East Championship quarterfinal round next weekend. The best-of-three series will begin on Friday, Feb. 23 and continue with game two on Saturday, Feb. 24 before game three on Sunday, Feb. 25 (if necessary). Vermont's opponent will be determined at the conclusion of this weekend's Hockey East play.
