BURLINGTON, Vt. – Colgate and Vermont went back-and-forth for most of the contest, but the Raiders handed the Cats an 11-9 decision in the season opener on Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field. UVM falls to 0-1 to begin the year while Colgate starts off at 1-0.

The Catamounts had six players record a point as
Jenna Janes led the way with five points. The junior scored four goals and dished out an assist.
Elise Koehl scored twice and recorded an assist in her UVM debut.
MacKenzie Bolt and
Sabrina Tattersfield also notched their first career goals.
Courtney Cole rounded out Vermont's offensive attack with a goal. Goalie
Maddy Kuras stopped 12 shots on the afternoon.
Colgate's Natalie Washuta scored a hat trick for the Raiders and scooped up two groundballs. Kristen Brigagliana followed with two goals and one assist. Samantha Croston earned the victory in goal and made seven saves.
UVM jumped out to a 2-0 lead near the midway point of the first half with goals from Koehl and Janes. The non-conference foes traded scores until Janes and Bolt padded the Cats' lead to 5-2 with 4:33 left in the period. The Raiders cut the deficit to 5-4 by halftime after Brigagliana and Washuta scored in the final four minutes.
Koehl provided an insurance goal less than a minute into the second half, but the Raiders tied the game at 6-6 with a pair of scores in a 2:34 stretch. UVM retook the lead at the 24:44 mark after Janes recorded her fourth goal of the afternoon.
The Raiders responded with three unanswered goals halfway mark through the final frame and held a 9-7 advantage. The Cats clawed back as Tattersfield worked her way through the Colegate defense for the score, then Cole took advantage of a penalty and netted the equalizer with 11:41 remaining in the game. Colgate earned the victory after scoring twice over the ensuing six minutes.
Vermont will make its first road trip of the season at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday (Feb. 20). The opening draw is set for 12 p.m.
