CATAMOUNT CHALLENGE | Donate
After raising more than $32,000 in support of UVM student-athletes a year ago, the second annual Catamount Challenge kicked off on Thursday (April 12) and will continue through Thursday (April 26) at 5 p.m. Donations can be made at
go.uvm.edu/gocats and all gifts will to go to the UVM Women's Lacrosse Excellence Fund. Advocates who share the Catamount Challenge and get others to give will receive gift cards to the UVM Bookstore at a value of $10 for 10 donors and $25 for 25 donors.
LAST TIME OUT
UVM closed the books on non-conference play with a 16-5 setback at 15th-ranked Dartmouth on Wednesday afternoon. The Catamount duo of
Bailey Saneman and
Jenna Janes scored two goals apiece. Janes also handed out an assist and won four draw controls.
Elise Koehl rounded out the offensive attack with one goal.
Maddy Kuras turned away five shots and
Catherine Green recorded three saves in a relief effort.
RALLY AGAINST CANCER
The contest is UVM's annual Rally Against Cancer game presented by Otter Creek Awnings and Vermont Custom Closets. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and support the efforts being made at the University of Vermont Cancer Center.
PROMOTIONS
Fans are encouraged to stick around after the game for a pair of promotions. Thanks to UVM Print and Mail, fans will receive a complimentary poster that can be autographed by the team. Fans are also welcome to bring their lacrosse sticks to the game and play catch on the field with the Cats after the poster signing.
DUCK DYNASTY
Assistant coach
Jessica Drummond will be squaring off against one of her former college teammates – Hartford assistant coach Liv Pyne. The pair helped the Oregon Ducks to 14-5 overall record and clinched the program's first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) regular season and tournament crowns back in 2012. The MPSF Championship helped the Ducks make their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
PASSING IT OFF
Bernier's senior campaign of 18 assists is only one assist shy of cracking the top-10 on UVM's single season assists list. Two years ago, the Falmouth, Maine native tallied 26 assists for the third-highest single season total. She has racked up 55 assists in her career – the fourth most by a Catamount.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
Saturday's matinee will be the first ever meeting between the two programs. The 2018 campaign marked Hartford's inaugural season. The Hawks were one of five Division I programs to usher in a new era of women's lacrosse this year. Coming into the season, the Hawks were picked ninth in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING HARTFORD
The Hawks opened the season with a 20-4 rout of Delaware State back on Feb. 24, but have struggled since with an 0-10 mark. Despite the goose egg in the win column in the last two months, Hartford has been one of the most successful America East teams in winning draw controls. The Hawks have won an average of 11.18 draw controls per game – the fourth best mark in the conference. Billy McLaughlin leads the team with 18 points on 12 goals and six assists. The junior had an impressive collegiate debut with seven goals against Delaware State. Debbie Phillips follows with 16 points on 10 goals and six assists. The freshman also had a big day against the Hornets with five goals and two assists. Goalie Cassidy Hock has recorded 85 saves and posted an 18.04 goals-against average this season.
