Jenna Janes racked up five points on four goals and one assist.
Elena McWright and
Elise Koehl added four points apiece with three goals and one assist.
Ali Korin tallied her first career hat trick with three goals.
Lexi Gordon also found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career.
Maddy Kuras earned her fifth win of the season as the junior held the Hawks scoreless through 30 minutes of action.
Catherine Green completed the defensive effort between the pipes in the second half.
SENIOR DAY
Before Saturday's game, UVM will honor its six seniors for Senior Day. The Class of 2018 includes
Kim Arkell,
Alex Bernier,
Courtney Cole,
Elena McWright,
Becca Olsen, and
Bailey Saneman.
ONE OF THE BEST
The Catamounts are the third-best team in the country when it comes converting free position opportunities. The Green and Gold have cashed in 53.8% (49-for-91) of their free position attempts behind Towson (52.2%) and the nation's leader High Point (56.9%).
100 IN SIGHT
Janes is two points shy of knocking down the 100-career point door. The Baltimore, Maryland native has amassed 98 points on 72 goals and 26 assists in three years as a Catamount. She would become the 17th UVM player to reach the mark. Earlier this month, Bernier surpassed the century plateau against Albany.
DUCK DYNASTY, PART II
For the second straight game, UVM assistant coach
Jessica Drummond will face a former Oregon Duck. Drummond played for the Ducks from 2009-12 and ranks in the top-five all-time in draw controls (130) and caused turnovers (61). Last weekend, she faced former teammate and current Hartford assistant coach Liv Pyne. On Saturday, UMass Lowell assistant coach Carly O'Connell will visit Catamount Country. O'Connell was a standout at Oregon from 2013-16.
FLIPPING THE SCRIPT
As the regular season comes to a close on Saturday, Vermont has been one of the most improved Division I teams from last season. UVM's four-win improvement from last year is tied for the third-best total in the country.
CLIMBING THE CAREER LADDER
Bernier's three-assist performance against the Hawks helped the redshirt senior move into a third-place tie on the career assists list. The York, Maine native has matched Samantha Stern '12 with 58 career assists. Bernier has handed out 21 assists this season – the eighth highest single season total by a UVM player.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks were picked seventh in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll but despite a 4-12 record, the squad from the Greater Beantown area has been competitive. UMass Lowell has suffered seven of its 12 defeats by four goals or less. The River Hawks are also tied for second in the league with 159 caused turnovers and trail Binghamton by only one forced mishap. Kendyl Finelli has been one of the top facilitators in the conference. She ranked third in America East with 38 dimes. Finelli leads the team in scoring with 53 points and has been credited with five assists in the last two games. Taylor Sokol has been on a tear of late as the senior has netted 14 goals during the month of April. Goalie and South Burlington native Courtney Barrett sits second in America East with a .473 save percentage and has tallied the third-most saves (116).
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts and River Hawks will meet for the fourth time since UMass Lowell transitioned to a Division I program in 2015. The series began with two victories by UVM in 2015 (W, 23-9) and 2016 (W, 13-2) but UMass Lowell reached the win column 14-8 last year in Lowell.
2018 RALLY AWARDS
The 2018 Rally Awards presented by Xfinity are vastly approaching. The ceremony takes place on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:15 p.m. in the historic Flynn Theatre in downtown Burlington. The event is free and open to the public. The Rally Awards is an all-sports celebration highlighting the accomplishments of UVM student-athletes.
