COACH'S QUOTE
"I thought the coaching staff did a great job explaining to the team how the game would go," head coach
Rob Dow said. "I think we executed the game plan very well. It was awesome to see our depth come onto the field like
Trevor Colazzo and
Alex Nagy to make an immediate impact on the match."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With less than a minute left before halftime, Mikel Kabala gave UVM a 1-0 lead with a penalty kick. The senior crushed the go-ahead score into the bottom left corner of the net and left LIU Brooklyn's starting keeper Sam Ilin (1 save) frozen in place.
- In the 64th minute, the Catamounts were on the attack. From the edge of the box, Danny Orrego had his shot blocked by a Blackbird defender but Colazzo gathered the rebound. The senior fired a shot on frame but LIU's relief goalie Anthony Sciola (2 saves) made the stop.
- Colazzo came through for Vermont 33 seconds later and doubled its lead to 2-0. Milan Beader sent a feed into the box for Colazzo, who rifled a low line drive to the far post.
- Beader added a goal of his own two minutes later. Nagy beat the defense along the goal line and found Beader charging in front of the net for the easy one-timer.
NOTES
- UVM goalkeeper Clay Thomas earned his first career clean sheet in his second career start. He also handed LIU Brooklyn its first regular season shutout loss since Oct. 22, 2017.
- Beader and Nagy both recorded their first career point as a Catamount.
- Vermont is off to a 3-1 start or better for the fourth time in the last six years.
- With the win, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate another $100 to the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington, bringing this year's total to 62 wins and $6,200.
