"On behalf of our players, coaches, staff, fans, and alums, I am incredibly honored to congratulate one of hockey's classiest coaches," head coach
Kevin Sneddon said. "KP is a coach, a mentor, and a friend to us all. I am so happy for KP and his family for receiving this prestigious award."
Terry Flanagan played four seasons at New Hampshire from 1975-79 and spent seven years as an assistant at Bowling Green before succumbing to cancer in 1991. He was named the award's first recipient in 1997, and the award has been given annually by the AHCA since.
Patrick is in the midst of his seventh season on the Catamounts' bench and fourth in his current role of associate head coach. UVM has won 20 or more games three times with Patrick on the staff.
A 1992 graduate of Notre Dame and two-year captain of the men's hockey team, Patrick began his collegiate coaching career in 1998-99 season as an assistant under Sneddon at Union College. Patrick spent four seasons in his hometown before spending three seasons as an assistant at Bowling Green (2002-05).
Patrick won a national championship in his first season as an assistant at Wisconsin in the 2005-06 season. He spent the following four seasons with the Badgers before a one-year stint as head coach of the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2010-11. While at Vermont, he served as an assistant coach for the United States National Junior team in the 2015 World Junior Championships, held in Montreal and Toronto.
Patrick is the first Hockey East coach to win the award since current UConn head coach Mike Cavanaugh won the award in 2013 as an assistant at Boston College. He will be honored this May at the 2019 AHCA Convention in Naples, Florida.
