BURLINGTON, Vt. – Maine used a 12-0 fourth quarter run to rally from behind and defeat Vermont 63-51 in America East action from Patrick Gym Wednesday night. With the win the Black Bears improved to 10-6 overall and 3-0 in America East, while the Catamounts fell to 5-10 and 1-2 in league play.

"Tonight was a very hard fought game," said head coach
Alisa Kresge. "Maine has a championship pedigree and is well-coached. We had a couple scoring droughts during the game that ended up being the difference. I'm very proud of our team effort and attitude. We'll watch the film, learn from it and get back to work."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hanna Crymble started strong for Vermont scoring four points as UVM took an initial 6-2 lead in the opening minutes. Maine's Tanesha Sutton was quick to respond, she poured in 10 first quarter points leading the Black Bears in a 10-2 run that gave them a 16-11 edge after the first frame.
- Blanca Millan took over to start the second quarter, scoring the first seven points of the quarter in the opening 81 seconds to build the Black Bears lead to a game-high 12. The Catamounts answered right back with a 12-2 run fueled by five points apiece from Lauren Handy and Josie Larkins. Millan banked in a three-pointer with four second left in the half to give Maine a 30-27 edge headed to the locker room.
- In the third quarter the Black Bears repeatedly pushed their advantage back up to seven only to see the Catamounts claw back every time. Courtney Wright buried a three-pointer late in the quarter as part of a 5-0 Vermont run that cut the advantage back to two heading to the decisive fourth quarter.
- At the 4:47 mark of the final frame Hanna Crymble gave the Catamounts their first advantage since the first quarter with a layup to make it 49-47. Over the next 3:42 the Black Bears explosive offense took control. Maine scored the next 12 points including two three-pointers 40 seconds apart to pull away and secure their first 3-0 start in league play since 2004.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Tanesha Sutton (27 Pts) and Blanca Millan (15 Pts) combined to hit 17 of Maine's 23 field goals.
- Hanna Crymble led the Catamounts in scoring with 14 points, she also gathered seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
- Candice Wright had two blocks on the evening bringing her season total to 49. She needs one to tie and two to break her program record of 50 blocks in a season.
- The Catamount bench outscored Maine 9-5, all nine points came from senior forward Lauren Handy. Vermont also outrebounded Maine 34-33.
