Men’s Hoops Cruises to 73-49 Conference Win at Maine

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 73, Maine 49
BANGOR, Maine – The UVM men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and cruised to a 73-49 win at Maine in America East action on Wednesday night. The Catamounts improve to 12-4 on the year and 2-0 in league play. The Black Bears drop to 2-15 and squander their second straight conference game.

COACH'S QUOTE
It was a good road win up here in Maine tonight and it was a good balanced effort from everyone," Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach John Becker said. "I thought our defense was really good and we found our rhythm offensively. Our bench continues to provide production and depth in league play. It will be big for us moving forward."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trading scores to begin the game, the Catamounts netted nine answered points but the Black Bears crawled back into the game. Maine knocked down two quick triples to draw within 11-9.
  • UVM used a balanced scoring attack to rattle off an 18-5 run and took a 29-14 lead at the 3:21 mark.
  • The Green and Gold scored six of the last eight points of the first half for a 35-18 advantage at the break.
  • Vermont kept momentum on its side with a 9-2 surge to begin the second half.
  • With 4:44 left in the game, the Catamounts built their largest lead of the night at 67-37. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Nine Catamounts scored at least one point in the win as Robin Duncan and Anthony Lamb notched 11 points apiece. Duncan hit both field goal attempts and canned 7-of-8 free throws. He also grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists. Lamb recorded his 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting and logged a team-high six boards.
  • Ernie Duncan tallied nine points and made 3-of-5 attempts from the floor.
  • Stef Smith and Isaiah Moll added eight points apiece.
  • Vermont registered its 15th consecutive win against Maine and took control of the all-time series at 71-70.
  • UVM is off to a 2-0 start in America East play for the third straight season and the sixth time under Becker.
  • With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to a local Vermont nonprofit organization, bringing this year's total to 5 wins and $500.

RALLY AGAINST CANCER GAME
Save the date for our annual Rally Against Cancer game, presented by Inspired Closets, on Saturday, Jan. 19. Vermont will host Binghamton with a 7 p.m. opening tip. The Catamounts will be wearing special edition lavender jerseys this year - the color that represents the fight against all cancers. Jerseys will be auctioned off following the game and the proceeds will benefit the UVM Cancer Center.
