MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
The Vermont men's hockey team opens the 2019-20 regular season with a road trip to take on 10th-ranked Clarkson on Friday (Oct. 18) before facing St. Lawrence on Saturday (Oct. 19). Both non-conference gamed are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Due to the ongoing renovations at Appleton Arena, Saturday's game against St. Lawrence will be played at nearby SUNY Canton. Both games are available through ESPN+ and StretchInternet (location dependent).

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson enters Friday night's game as the 10th-ranked team in the country after earning a tie and win at Michigan to open the season. Four different Golden Knights scored in two games at Michigan. Sophomore Josh Dunne leads the team with a goal and two assists for three points.

Senior Haralds Egle is the team's leading returning scorer. The Latvian native tallied 19 goals and 40 points last season. Clarkson hosts Providence tomorrow night at Cheel Arena. The Friars take on St. Lawrence tonight in Canton, New York.

The 2019 ECAC Champions and an NCAA tournament team, Clarkson must replace a pair of players who left early: goaltender Jake Kielly and captain Nico Sturm. Kielly signed with Vancouver and Sturm signed with Minnesota.Â

INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and Clarkson meet for the second straight season and 85th time in series history Friday. Vermont opens its season against Clarkson for the third time, previously opening the 1972-73 and 2016-17 campaigns against the Golden Knights.

Vermont holds a 6-3-1 record against Clarkson in the last 10 meetings, but Clarkson has taken the last two victories.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence opened the new campaign with an overtime loss against Mercyhurst before winning the backend of the road series for a split. Sophomore Zach Risteau tallied a pair of goals and assists for four points on the weekend. Three other Saints found the back of the net.

Senior Daniel Mannella earned the win last weekend and holds a .952 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average. Sophomore Emil Zetterquist started in net in the loss and holds an .857 save percentage and 2.94 goals against average.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and St. Lawrence meet for the 95th time in series history and 18th time since Vermont joined Hockey East Saturday night.

The Catamounts hold a 7-3-0 record in the last 10 games while St. Lawrence leads the all-time series 47-44-3.

WE KNOW THESE ROADS
After facing five ECAC opponents in 2018-19, the Catamounts are slated to face six former conference foes and Quinnipiac in 2019-20, including the pair this weekend in New York.

Following this weekend, Vermont heads south to Hamden, Connecticut to take on the Bobcats of Quinnipiac (Oct. 27). The Cats then host Union (Dec. 28) in the first game of the 2019 Catamount Cup in its fourth contest against the ECAC. Ivy League foes Yale (Jan. 7) and Dartmouth (Jan. 10) visit Gutterson in back-to-back nonconference games to open the new year.
