Vermont Hosts Maine Friday on Rally Against Cancer Night Presented by Inspired Closets; Travel to #9 Quinnipiac Sunday

MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
The Vermont Catamounts (1-1-0, 0-0-0 HEAM) return to action at Gutterson Fieldhouse for the first time in 2019-20 as the Maine Black Bears (3-2-0, 0-1-0 HEAM) visit for the Hockey East conference opener Friday night. Vermont then hits the road to take on ninth-ranked Quinnipiac (3-1-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) on Sunday (Oct. 27).
 
Friday's game is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. and will stream through CBS Sports All-Access in the United States and through SportsLive internationally. The game will air locally on WVMT (FM 96.3 / AM 620). A live audio stream and live stats are available through UVMAthletics.com. The voice of Catamount hockey, Michael Lehr, will be on the call across all platforms.

RALLY AGAINST CANCER PRESENTED BY INSPIRED CLOSETS
Friday's game is Vermont's annual Rally Against Cancer game presented by Inspired Closets. Fans can bid on the game-worn lavender jerseys here. The auction is open now through noon on Thursday, Oct. 31. Proceeds benefit the UVM Cancer Center.
 
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine enters Friday with a 3-2-0 record and 0-1-0 conference mark. The Black Bears opened the season with a 7-0 Hockey East loss at home against Providence (Oct. 5). They then swept Alaska Anchorage in a home series (Oct. 11-12) before splitting on the road against nationally-ranked Quinnipiac (Oct. 18-19).
 
Junior Edouards Tralmaks leads the team in goals (6) and points (9). He is seventh in the nation in goals per game (1.20) and 14th in points per game (1.80). Senior Mitchell Fossier leads the team with eight assists. Classmate Tim Doherty has three goals and five assists as the pair rank 27th nationally in scoring. Fourteen Black Bears have recorded a point in five games this season. Junior Jeremy Swayman has started every game for Maine this season, with a .944 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont holds a 28-26-7 all-time record against Maine in a series that began in 1979. UVM holds a 3-4-3 mark in its last 10 games against Maine and a 14-11-4 record at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Vermont defeated Maine twice in the most recent playoff series in 2015.
 
UVM holds the longest win streak in series history at eight games. The Cats took eight straight from Maine from 2013-15.
 
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac enters Sunday as the nation's ninth-ranked team per the USCHO Division I Poll. The Bobcats have a 3-1-0 overall record with a sweep over AIC and a series split with Maine.
 
Junior Odeen Tufto leads the team in assists (6) and points (6). Sophomore Wyatt Bongiovanni leads the team with three goals. Fifteen Bobcats have recorded a point through four games in 2019-20.
 
Junior Keith Petruzzelli has made all four starts between the pipes. The 2017 Detroit Red Wings third round pick has a 2.80 goals against average and .890 save percentage.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and Quinnipiac meet for the fourth straight season and just the fifth time in series history Sunday in Hamden, Connecticut. Vermont holds a 1-3-0 record against the Bobcats, with the lone win coming in the 2016 Belpot Championship game in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
 
The Bobcats took a 3-2 win over the Catamounts last October at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Two seasons ago, Quinnipiac took a 3-2 overtime win in its lone home game in the series.
 
LEKKAS 3K
Lekkas earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors following his North Country weekend. The senior stopped 64-of-67 shots over the weekend and made 35 saves in a 2-0 shutout win over St. Lawrence. It marks his 10th career defensive player of the week honor.
 
Lekkas recorded his 3,000th career save and fourth career shutout against St. Lawrence. He is the third goalie to record 3,000 saves in a Vermont uniform, joining Tim Thomas '97 (3,950) and Rob Madore '12 (3,352).
