COACH'S QUOTE
"Today was a really good win over an Atlantic 10 team on New Year's Eve in front of another great crowd," Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach John Becker said. "It was a fun game to be a part of and I thought we played really well for the most part. We shot the ball well for the second straight game and got contributions from a lot of guys."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Catamounts and Colonials exchanged baskets in the opening minutes of the first half after Lamb drilled a pair of threes as the non-conference opponents were tied 22-22.
  • Vermont then distanced itself from George Washington with a 21-4 run in the final nine minutes of the half. Stef Smith registered two triples and Lamb added nine more points en route to a 43-26 lead at the break.
  • The Colonials began to rally back in the second half. Chase Paar manufactured seven points and Amir Harris added six points as GW closed the gap to 58-49, its smallest deficit since the 6:48 mark of the first half.
  • The Cats put the game away with an 18-2 run in the final eight minutes. Everett Duncan drilled a contested three to ignite the offense and Smith provided nine more points in UVM's closing run.
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Lamb's 23 points were fueled by 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. The senior collected eight rebounds and tallied three blocks.
  • Smith registered 19 points, pulled in three boards, and dished out three assists.
  • Robin Duncan nearly had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. The guard also distributed four assists.
  • The 25-point win was the largest margin of victory over an Atlantic 10 opponent in program history. Vermont has won six of its last seven meetings with A-10 schools and completed a second straight season sweep.
  • With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish Vermont, bringing the 2019 grand total to 112 wins totaling $11,200. A special thank you to Vermont Mutual Insurance for their support. A new beneficiary of the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign will be announced at the next game. Vermont Mutual Insurance, protecting Vermonters since 1828.
