HAMILTON, N.Y. – The UVM women's lacrosse team held off a late rally by Colgate and earned a 12-9 non-conference victory in the 2019 season opener on Saturday afternoon. The Catamounts begin the new campaign at 1-0 while the Raiders slip to 0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute with a goal from Jenna Janes 24 seconds into the game, then Jenny Caoili added her first score 22 seconds later.
- Colgate's Danielle Van Calcar (3 goals) helped the Raiders climb back and tie the game at 4-4 with 10 minutes left in the first half.
- Vermont netted the final two goals of the first half for a 6-4 lead at the break - one from Sabrina Tattersfield and Alex Vignona beat the clock with 19 ticks left in the period.
- The non-conference foes trades scores in the opening two minutes of the second half but the Catamounts pulled away near the midway point. The Green and Gold rattled off four unanswered goals and stretched their lead to 11-6 by the 8:34 mark.
- Colgate rallied for three goals in the final 7:10 as UVM held on for the final margin of victory.
GAME NOTES
- Caolili recorded her first collegiate hat trick on three shot attempts.
- Alex Vignona set a career high with five points. The senior netted a pair of goals and dished out three assists.
- In her Catamount debut, Molly McDonough added two goals and scooped up two ground balls.
- Mackenzie Bolt was a solid facilitator with three assists and won three draw controls.
- Maddy Kuras made 12 saves between the pipes.
- The Catamounts used a balanced attack as eight different players scored a goal.
- UVM reaches the win column in the season opener for the second straight year and improves to 21-10 in the all-time series against Colgate.
- With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish Vermont; bringing this year's total to 32 wins and $3,200.

Vermont Men's & Women's Lacrosse Coaches invite program alumni back for a joint alumni day with a doubleheader and reception for program alumni.
