BOSTON – Several school records were set by Vermont Catamounts at Friday's Day 1 of the America East Championships at Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
The UVM women (23 pts.) sit in fifth place after the opening day while the men are in eighth with 8.5 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dan DeBlieck's time of 1:03.62 was a 500m school record as well as the top time in the preliminaries.
- The tandem of Caroline O'Shea, Alex May Curtis, Ava Meyer, and Lauren Trumble ran the distance medley relay in 11:38.46 for the school record and third in the race.
- Samantha Sayer took third place in the 5000m with her career best time of 17:04.71.
- DJ Snide is in second place in the men's heptathlon after Day 1. The sophomore set personal-bests in all four events: 60m dash (7.47s), long jump (6.34m), shot put (12.63m) and high jump (1.78m)
- Marina Cannon registered a second-place finish in the women's pole vault with a jump of 3.50m. Her jump matched her career-best set in the season's first meet at Dartmouth (Dec. 8).
- Andy Chess matched his best mark of the season in the pole vault with a jump of 4.35m for third in the competition.
- Justin Liechty took third in the 400m preliminaries with a time of 48.85 seconds to qualify tomorrow's finals.
- Seth Beard qualified for tomorrow's 200m dash finals with a time of 22.12 seconds.
- Jack Carmody had a personal record in the 5000m with a time of 14:50.58.

The Catamounts continue the America East Championships Saturday (Feb. 23) with the final races at BU Track and Tennis Center. Events begin at 10 a.m.
