GET THE BROOMS OUT
The Catamounts swept their two-game road trip in New York with a 12-9 win at Colgate last Saturday then beat Manhattan 10-7 on Monday. UVM is 2-0 to begin the season for the first time since 2014.
Elise Koehl guided the team with eight points on six assists and two assists in the two-game set.
Alex Vignona followed with six points on two goals and a team-best four assists.
FIRST CAREER POINTS
A trio of UVM players registered their first collegiate point on the road trip –
Taylor Mullen,
Grace Giancola, and
Molly McDonough. Mullen ranks third on the team with five points on three goals and three assists. Giancola and McDonough netted a pair of goals in the two games.
KURAS IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Goalie
Maddy Kuras has notched 14 career wins and sits one victory away from typing Kate McBride (2001-04) for sixth on the program's all-time wins list. She has recorded 386 saves in her three-plus years as a Catamount – the seventh most in school history. The Maple Grove, Minnesota native stands at No. 9 in career ground balls (112).
SCOUTING MARIST
The Red Foxes come to Burlington with an 0-2 record after falling to Army 18-9 on Feb. 13 and dropped an 18-9 decision at Rutgers last Saturday. Picked second in the MAAC preseason rankings, Marist returns an abundance of key contributors from last year including four Preseason All-Conference selections – Logan Boyle, Delaney Galvin, Samantha Mehalick, and Hailey Wagner. Mehalick has jumped out to the team-best seven goals this season. Last year, Mehalick set the school record with 61 goals and ranked in the top-10 nationally with 3.75 goals per game. Galvin was the MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018 and led the league in save percentage (.539) as a rookie.
INSIDE THE SERIES
UVM leads the all-time series 6-5 with Marist but the Green and Gold will try to snap a four-game skid. Prior to 2015, the Cats had won six of the first seven meetings. Last year, the Red Foxes won the matchup 15-6 in Poughkeepsie.
