Poulin-Labelle's two points came in the victory on the road against the Holy Cross Crusaders Sunday (Feb. 3) in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her weekly point total was tied for the highest among Hockey East rookies on defense and had the fourth-most shots on goal among the conference's blueliners. With her clutch first-period goal against Holy Cross, Poulin-Labelle was the only rookie in the league to register a game-winning tally last week.
Sunday's game-winning goal was her second of the season, which is tied for the most by a rookie defenseman in the nation. She now leads the Catamounts' defense in scoring with 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in her first collegiate season and is tied for the lead in rookie scoring with
Theresa Schafzahl (5 goals, 6 assists).
A native of Sherbrooke, Québec, Poulin-Labelle earns the first Hockey East weekly honor of her career and the third by a Catamount this season. Fellow blue liner
Sini Karjalainen was named Rookie of the Week (Dec. 10) and
Blanka Škodová won Defensive Player of the Week in early November.
Vermont returns to action Friday (Feb. 8) for the start of a two-game series on the road against the UConn Huskies. Puck drop for the series opener is slated for 3 p.m. at Freitas Ice Forum, followed by a 1 p.m. start Saturday (Feb. 9) at XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.
