SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN
Navy opens the 2019 season against Vermont after finishing the 2018 campaign with a 9-5 overall record and 7-1 Patriot League conference mark. Navy took its biggest win of the season late in the year in 2018, defeating Syracuse on the road, 13-12. The Midshipmen's season ended in the Patriot League semifinals with a 10-9 overtime loss to Lehigh.
Â
Three of the four leading scorers from a season ago return in 2019. On the other side of the ball, two starting defensemen, Michael Strack and Hiram Carter, graduated. Sophomore Andrew McKenna returns for his sophomore season after making 13 starts as a freshman. Ryan Kern enters his junior season between the pipes for Navy. He has started all 28 games in his two years in Annapolis. He posted a .502 save percentage and 8.82 goals against average in 2018.
