WORKING OVERTIME
In last Saturday's home opener, the Catamounts dropped a 15-14 overtime heartbreaker to Marist. The extra-session contest was the first overtime game for the Green and Gold since March 8, 2016 and the 18th in program history.
AMERICA EAST LEADERS
Vermont has the second-highest goals per game average (12.0) and the second-best goals-against average (10.29) among America East teams. The Cats have also rank third in total assists (18) and points (54).
Alex Vignona holds a share of the top spot on the individual leaderboard with six assists.
Elise Koehl sits fifth in the league with 12 points and sixth in goals (10). In addition to her goals-against average, goalie
Maddy Kuras has posted the fourth-best save percentage (.530) and has averaged 11.67 saves per game - the fifth-most among her conference peers.
SCORING IS THE NAME OF THE GAME
The 2019 Cats have netted 36 goals through the first three games of the season – the most since the 2014 Catamounts produced 54 goals in the opening three contests. UVM is also 2-1 to begin the year for the first time since the 2015 campaign.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
The Pioneers have dropped both contests to open the season – a 16-5 setback to New Hampshire last Friday and a 17-2 defeat to Monmouth on Wednesday. In the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, Sacred Heart was picked to finish sixth after posting a 2-14 record last year. In the early parts of 2019, Hanna Wise leads the team with four goals including a hat trick in the season opener. Wise netted the third-most goals (33) on the squad a year ago and ranked ninth in the NEC with 2.06 goals per game. Sydney Ericson and Lydia Werlau follow with two points apiece. Ericson was credited with two assists against UNH while Werlau scored a goal against the Wildcats and issued an assist versus the Hawks.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Saturday's matinee will be the rubber match between the non-conference foes as the all-time series is tied at 3-3. The Pioneers won the first three contests from 2003-05 but the Cats rebounded with three consecutive victories in 2014, 2015, and last year. In the three wins, UVM has won by an average of 9.7 goals. Last season, Vermont carried a 7-0 halftime lead into the second half on its way to an 11-6 win.
