COACH'S QUOTE
"I am really proud of the resiliency that we showed today against some major adversity," head coach Chris Feifs said. "The grittiness it took for our guys to come back in the second half shows what we are capable of when we dig in and play together. It wasn't a pretty win but we found a way and we will certainly build on this one."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Retrievers scored five straight goals to take a 6-1 lead over the Catamounts into the second quarter. UMBC's Ryan Frawley posted a first quarter hat trick as UMBC held a 15-6 advantage in shots.
  • Liam Limoges and Milchling each scored in the final minute of the first half to bring the Cats within four goals, trailing 8-4.
  • UMBC held the Catamounts scoreless in the third quarter and added another pair to push its lead to 10-4 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
  • David Closterman's second goal of the game made it 11-7 and kick-started the Catamount comeback with 5:27 to play in the fourth. From there, Milching, Rob Hudson and Thomas McConvey each tallied respective goals before Milchling tallied his third of the game with 2:21 to play to tie the game at 11-11. UVM tallied five goals in 3:06.
  • Nick Washuta finished the game with 13 saves, making five stops in the fourth quarter and overtime periods to give Vermont a chance to climb back into the game.
  • Milchling's game-winning goal came 59 seconds into the second overtime period. Thomas McConvey dodged a Retriever defender and found an open Milchling to cap the comeback.
GAME NOTES
  • Milchling broke a two-game point drought and matched a career-high with four goals. The senior scored four times as a sophomore against Hartford in 2017.
  • Freshman Sal Iaria tallied three assists in the fourth quarter. It marked a career-high in assists and points for the freshman from Washington state.
  • Washuta recorded double-digit saves for the third straight game and fourth time in 2019. He matched UVM Hall-of-Famer Chris McCabe '91 with 20 career wins, the third most in program history.
  • Vermont held a slight advantage at the X with a 15-for-28 afternoon. Sophomore Alex Semler was 13-for-25 and freshman Dobson Cooper was 2-for-5. Semler won the last six faceoffs in regulation to keep Vermont on the offensive.
  • UMBC held a 51-31 advantage in shots and a 24-20 advantage in shots on goal. The Retrievers also finished the game with a 30-23 edge in ground balls.
