LACROSSE ALUMNI DAY – APRIL 6, 2019
Vermont Men's & Women's Lacrosse Coaches invite program alumni back for a joint alumni day with a doubleheader and reception for program alumni on Saturday, April 6. The day will start at 11 a.m. with women's lacrosse hosting Stony Brook in the annual Vanessa Cox #23 Memorial Game. The men's lacrosse team will continue the action at 2:30 p.m. against UAlbany. NATIONAL STATS RANKINGS
As a team, Vermont ranks in the top-30 nationally in five statistical categories. The Cats have logged the ninth-best save percentage (.533) and own the 19th-lowest scoring defense (8.75). The Green and Gold have dished out the 26th-most assists per game (6.5) and sit at No. 27 in scoring margin (4.25). UVM has converted 45.8% of its free position attempts for the 29th-best rate in the country.
AMERICA EAST LEADERS
Alex Vignona stands in second on the America East individual leaderboard with 10 assists – trailing only Stony Brook's Taryn Ohlmiller with 11 assists. On the national scene, the senior's 2.50 assists per game average is the 11
th-best mark in Division I. The Cats also have three of the top-10 point scorers in the league.
Elise Koehl leads the team with 15 points as she is locked in at No. 7 among her conference peers.
Jenna Janes trails by a point at No. 8 with 14 points and Vignona holds down the No. 10 spot with 13 points.
SCOUTING ECU
In its second year as a varsity program, East Carolina has jumped out to a 5-2 start. The Pirates finished their inaugural season with a 2-15 record and return 17 players from last year's team. Megan Pallozzi, a Preseason All-Conference pick in the American Conference, netted 25 goals as a freshman and currently paces the team with 14 goals. Ally Stanton was ECU's top scoring threat last year with 29 points. She has nearly matched her point total from 2018 with 20 points in seven games. She has tallied 11 goals and handed out nine assists. The Pirates have split time between goalies – Savvy Smith and Sophie Bandorick. Smith has logged nearly 28 minutes in two games and has recorded a 6.45 goals-against average (GAA). Bandorick has played 22 minutes between the pipes with a 2.70 GAA.
THE OTHER TRIP TO NORTH CAROLINA
UVM has played one other opponent from North Carolina – a 2008 meeting at Duke. The Blue Devils were ranked No. 4 in the country and topped the Cats 20-6.
CATS VS. THE AMERICAN
Vermont will face ECU for the first time in school history but the Cats have faced a member of the American Conference before – UConn. The Catamounts and Huskies have squared off three times, all UVM wins, in 1998 (W, 14-6), 2008 (W, 15-8), and 2009 (W, 14-11).
