"We are pleased to announce and welcome five first-year student-athletes and one transfer student-athlete to our family here at UVM," Sneddon said. "
Kevin Patrick and
Jeff Hill did a great job with this class, and deserve a lot of credit for finding great players with even better character. We believe many of these players will step in right away and make positive contributions. Many thanks to Brooks Bandits head coach Ryan Papaioannou, Chilliwack Chiefs head coach Brian Maloney, and Cobourg Cougars head coach Jerome Dupont for helping these players develop within their programs."
Jacques Bouquot
F | 6-0 | 180 | South Windsor, Conn. | Chilliwack (BCHL)
Bouquot spent the majority of the 2018-19 season with the BCHL's Chilliwack Chiefs, where he tallied 10 goals and 28 points in 31 games. Previously, he played three seasons at Salisbury Prep, including one as a captain.
Sneddon: "Jacques became available (no longer committed to Boston College) late in the recruiting process. We've known about Jacques since his days at Salisbury under Coach Andrew Will. He was injured during the first part of last season, but had a very strong second half for Chilliwack. Jacques adds size, speed, intelligence, and skill for us."
Bouquot: "I chose UVM because of the tradition and the level of hockey that is played here; and also because of the coaching staff and the wonderful things I heard about the players."
Simon Boyko
F | 5-10 | 175 | Mississauga, Ont. | Brooks (AJHL)
Boyko spent two seasons with Brooks and tallied 56 points to finish sixth on the team and 29th in the AJHL in scoring. Brooks finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 57-3-0 record and won the AJHL Championship and National Junior A Championship. Boyko totaled 104 points in 109 career games in the AJHL.
Sneddon: "Simon had some ups and downs during the first half of the season, but he was one of the top forwards for Coach Papaioannou during the play-off run. He became a big part of the success the Brooks Bandits achieved."
Boyko: "I chose UVM because when I got on campus it had a very homey feel to it and I enjoyed the looks of the campus. I felt that the style of play at Vermont would fit my game the best and when I came down on the tour the atmosphere was electric."
William Lemay
F | 5-10 | 185 | Marieville, Québec | Brooks (AJHL)
Lemay spent the 2018-19 season with the AJHL's Brooks Bandits, where he claimed the Ernie Love Trophy as the league's leading scorer with 90 points in 58 games. He helped the Bandits win the 2019 AJHL Championship and 2019 National Junior A Championship.
Sneddon: "William was one of the top junior players in Canada last year. He is a proven scorer who is also very reliable in all areas of the game. We expect William to have an impact immediately."
Lemay: "I decided to attend UVM because they have a really good hockey program. It's also where one of my idols, Martin St. Louis, played and performed very well."
Andrew Lucas
D | 5-11 | 160 | Alexandria, Va. | Brooks (AJHL)
Lucas spent the majority of the 2018-19 campaign with Brooks and tallied 49 points in 53 games to help the Bandits win the 2019 AJHL Championship and 2019 National Junior A Championship. Lucas spent four prior years at Loomis Chaffee, including a pair of seasons alongside Catamount sophomore
Joey Cipollone.
Sneddon: "Andrew had a great year in Brooks for Coach Papaioannou. Andrew is an offensive defenseman who can help a powerplay unit with his vision, deception, and skill. He loves to jump into the play and is very intelligent about doing so."
Lucas: "I fell in love with the school, the city of Burlington, and the atmosphere around the hockey team when I came to visit."
Riley McCutcheon
F | 6-2 | 190 | Courtice, Ont. | Cobourg (OJHL)
McCutcheon spent last season with the OJHL's Cobourg Cougars, where he finished second on the team in scoring with 57 points and 17th in the league with 1.19 points per game. He represented Team Canada East in the 2018 World Junior A Challenge and tallied three points in four games.
Sneddon: "Riley is a big, strong power forward and helped his team in Cobourg by scoring many important goals last season. Riley has a great release and has very good offensive instincts."
McCutcheon: "I chose UVM because I see a great future in our team, there's an amazing community that supports the team that brings a homelike feeling too."
Thomas Beretta
F | 6-1 | 210 | King City, Ont. | Michigan Tech (WCHA)
Beretta joins the Catamounts as a transfer after three seasons with the WCHA's Michigan Tech Huskies. He played in 102 games at MTU and helped the team win the 2017 and 2018 WCHA Championship.
Sneddon: "Finally, we welcome senior transfer Tom Beretta from Michigan Tech University to our program. Tom has 100 games of experience at the NCAA level as well as playing on a team that won two WCHA Championships and appeared in the NCAA Tournament. Tom's mature approach to the game will help our team on and off the ice. He has been coached by two very well-respected coaches at MTU in Mel Pearson and Joe Shawhan."
Beretta: "Choosing to come to UVM was an easy decision for me. It is a well-established hockey program in a very competitive conference. The rich hockey history and supportive fanbase creates a special experience that appeals to motivated hockey players like myself."
