BURLINGTON, Vt. – University of Vermont head coach
Kevin Sneddon announced changes to the coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season.
Ryan Callahan, who served as a volunteer assistant last season, has been promoted to Director of Hockey Operations.
Matt Anderson, a two-year captain at UMass, will serve in the volunteer assistant capacity in 2019-20.

"Ryan was an outstanding volunteer coach for us last year and I am very pleased to announce that he is now our Director of Hockey Operations," Sneddon said. "He has earned this promotion and he will continue to have a very important role and impact within our program. Ryan's primary responsibilities will be: all aspects of video preparation including team, individual, and recruiting edits, team travel, community service event coordination, assisting myself with fundraising activities, and advance scouting of all opponents."
Callahan graduated from Plymouth State in 2017 and spent one season as an assistant with the USPHL's Islanders Hockey Club before joining the UVM staff last year.
"It's an honor to be promoted as the Director of Hockey Operations here at Vermont," Callahan said. "This is a first-class university and program with an amazing staff and group of young men, from top to bottom. I'm excited to continue my career with this University and carry on the tradition of being a Catamount."
In addition to Callahan's promotion, Sneddon announced that former UMass standout
Matt Anderson will join the staff as a volunteer coach in 2019-20.
"After a lengthy professional career following a great college career at UMass, we welcome
Matt Anderson who will serve as our volunteer coach for the 2019-20 season," Sneddon commented. "Matt has a strong understanding of skill development for forwards as well as an ability to help players understand what it takes to be a top-level player on and off the ice."
Anderson captained the UMass squad for two seasons and tallied 91 points in 128 NCAA games. Following his collegiate career, Anderson played in 342 career AHL games from 2006-13, he played in two NHL games with the New Jersey Devils in 2012-13, where he tallied an assist. He then spent a pair of seasons in the KHL (2013-15) before three full seasons in the Swedish Hockey League (2015-18).
