BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men's soccer team has announced the addition of senior defender
Ívar Örn Árnason as a team captain. Árnason joins fellow classmates
Jon Arnar Barðdal,
Lucas Shaw, and
Arnar Steinn Hansson on the leadership team.
Last season, the 6-1 defender saw action in all 19 matches and earned 18 starts. He was credited with an assist in a 2-1 victory against Northeastern. The Akureyri, Iceland native also helped UVM's defensive unit post eight clean sheets in 2018 – the most in a decade. As a sophomore, he scored a goal at Harvard and netted a game-winner in the last minute at conference foe Hartford.
Vermont will get the 2019 campaign underway at the Chicago Classic this weekend. UVM will play at Loyola Chicago in the season opener on Friday (Aug. 30). The opening kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET.
